The regular meeting of the Raytown Scottish Rite Club was opened in proper form by our president Ron Hewitt at 7:00 pm on June 9, 2008 in the old Sultan’s Lounge of Ararat Shrine Temple with prayer by acting Chaplain, Jim Snyder and the Pledge of Allegiance lead by our president. There were 8 members, with 8 ladies and guests present.

Guest Speaker: Our speaker for the evening was Jo Finney, Senior Clinician for the Childhood Language Disorders Clinic at the Scottish Rite in Kansas City also known as the Rite Care Clinic. With 19 years at the clinic, Jo gave an interesting presentation on the program which is run by Children’s Mercy Hospital. Jo said that the program which is funded through donations also is in need of volunteers to assist with the children

at the valley location. They also are looking for hearing aids that work but are no longer needed which can be donated to the clinic and used to assist the children. She stressed that interpreters are also needed who can speak Spanish, Arabic and/or Hebrew.

Sickness: Brother Don King (Past president of the Clay-Platte Club) was recuperating at home following a stay at North Kansas City Hospital for breathing problems; Gary Barron was doing very well after his by-pass surgery.

Minutes: The minutes were presented via email and regular mail in advance of the meeting and were approved as submitted.

Treasurers Report: The Treasurer reported $618.95 in the bank.

Old Business: The president gave a report on upcoming events at the Valley with a special emphasis on the Platters Concert July 25th and 26th. He stressed the need for volunteers to work both or either night to make the rental/fundraiser a success. More than 70 people will be needed to fill the volunteer positions.

New Business: No new business to report

Special Guest: We welcome back old friends, especially RW Brother Bill Hill, 33° and his lovely wife Jo.

Remarks: The president still has copies of the 1,000 sacred texts CD that he gave out at the May meeting. Please let him know if you would like a copy.

The meeting was closed in regular form at 9:00 pm.

Dues for 2008 are now payable. You can mail them directly to the Secretary/Treasurer; OR BETTER turn them in when you attend the next meeting! If you are not sure of your dues status, check with Bill.

PLEASE call Brother Vern Whitson with the number in your party for our next meeting at 913/381-3035 or you can email him at jeanvern9596 @aol.com. Vern will need this information by Friday before the meeting on Monday [so that The Shrine can plan their space and personnel accordingly]!

July Speaker: We will play Bingo at the July meeting! Remember to bring a ‘prize’.
